The 2010 NCAA pairings are here and for the most part, they got it right...unless you are Coach John Savage. UCLA had a banner year...is awarded its hosting site, but they were put in a most curiously tough regional with defending champion and this years SEC Tournament Champion, LSU and pitching rich UC Irvine. Kent State round out the foursome. So, you'd think that ESPN would jump on this opportunity for the nation to see some of the best baseball of all of the regionals right? Wrong...The Fullerton regional with Fullerton, Stanford, Minnesota and New Mexico get the west coast feed. I love Fullerton and Stanford, but I'd pay a scalper big bucks to see that UCLA regional.
Nevertheless, this should be a hugely successful tournament. The SEC and other tournaments around the country broke attendance records this year. The SEC drew over 126,000 fans to this year conference tourney, despite some early round upsets. The college game is getting quite popular. Don't be surprised if ESPN announces record viewership this year and expands coverage for 2011.
